& The Made
My name is Nyanda Yekwai, I am a multidisciplinary artist who for decades has been on a journey, seeking to express my personal narrative through the creative arts, whether it be painting, the written word or carving monuments in stone.
Making things has always been my sanctuary, a point in time and space where I am able to make sense of the world around me and my place within it. All these experiences and skills have been brought together through years of trial, experimentation, and practice, culminating into one of a kind, handcrafted jewelry made to be worn and loved.
Personal Journey
Over the years, I have had some fantastic creative opportunities; sculpting monuments around the world, interdisciplinary collaborations, and much more recently I have appeared on two BBC programmes the first of which was, ‘All That Glitters’ (Season 2 - currently available on BBC iPlayer), hosted by Katherine Ryan and judged by Shaun Leane and Dinny Hall.
‘Make it at Market’, presented by Dominic Chinea from the ‘Repair Shop’ is the second show and was filmed during spring/ summer 2022 and was broadcast every weekday during the month of January 2023. It is still available on BBC iPlayer and on Britbox.
All these experiences have enhanced my practice - leaving the sanctity of my studio space and laying my Soul bare for all to see. Outside of my ‘comfort zone’, I learned a lot about myself, clarified my creative purpose and all that reminds me that I am winning!
My personal philosophy is, ‘Always... live to learn and learn to live… better’
Wearable Art
SoulVisionary is a handmade jewelry brand entirely designed and made by me, Nyanda Yekwai, at my studio at Cockpit Arts in Bloomsbury, London. The focus is on meticulous craftsmanship coupled with an innovative aesthetic, all inspired by my admiration and respect for the intricacies and diversity of Mother Nature.
SoulVisionary’s aesthetic is also representative of my love for the organic form, voiced through minimalistic design; mirroring the fluidity and interconnectivity that inspires my sculpting style.
SoulVisionary is a non-conformist brand with a timelessly intuitive contemporary approach to jewelry design. My aim is to blur the division between jewelry and art, redefining the body as a kinetic and interactive ‘plinth’.
SoulVisionary Ethics
As a company, SoulVisionary is both environmentally and socially aware; protecting the planet we all share and supporting ethically sustainable sources are at the forefront of the business. This is achieved by using recycled materials where possible, sourcing gems and precious metals from likeminded suppliers, only using Eco FSC® Certified packaging, as well as reducing and managing waste appropriately and minimising the use of harmful chemicals in my studio. It makes no sense making beautiful things from materials that have an ugly backstory.
The evolving collection consists of unique rings, earrings, necklaces, and bangles, as well as bespoke and commissioned pieces made to order. SoulVisionary Jewelry is a brand for conscious people who are confident, experimental, and effortlessly expressive through their style, whilst contributing to a more sustainable future via their considered purchasing choices.
